On Tuesday a day early), the boarders celebrated the Burning of Witches - otherwise known as Walpurgis Night (half-way between the midsummer / solstice and spring equinox), when witches and other spirits come out. Traditionally there's a bonfire (but not fireworks), food and drink. Villages put up maypoles and guard them, to prevent them being nicked by other villages. Jack went on a scout sleepover on Wednesday, the true celebrations and has come back a wreck. Anyway, today we used the fireplace to roast our lunch. The dandelions and grazing sheep are just next to the fire. It is raining heavily now - April weather
