Last Sunday I took part in the "Nairobi Marathon", a huge event by Kenyan standards incorporating a full marathon, a half, a 10k and a fun run. Jack did the fun run with a school group to raise money for blind people and I did the half.
No photos, because Vera refuses to see me at the end of races on account of my distressing displays of ill health. She was right, too - once again the first aid team saw me coming and grabbed an arm each as with my now standard aplomb I crossed the finish line and then headed for the tarmac.
The good news is that without training and running at an altitude of 1,770 m I set myself a sub-two hour target - and made it with 22 seconds to spare.
But it bloody hurt, so I have now retired from half-marathons. Jack plans to do the 10k with me next year.
Well done boys xx
