Jack did it! He cycled from Poland to Austria, crossing the whole of Moravia (the wine-drinking side of the Czech Republic) - and did it in an astonishing two days, leaving Poland at lunch-time on Monday...
... and arriving in Austria
at lunch-time on Wednesday.
He burned about 5000 calories a day and covered about 200 miles.
He also got lost far, far fewer times than I did in the car, possibly because with all his orienteering experience, at least one Pockley knows how to use a map.
En route he was kept going by Mum's plum cake, the sports supplement of champions.
There was time to model cycling kit in an urban setting...
...and chill out at our first night camp in the Moravian countryside.
The expedition was Jack's idea. He organised his own training regime and chose his own route, reading the contours on the map to great effect. He went at an astonishing pace: this morning, whilst waiting for a safe moment to overtake, I clocked him cycling on the flat at over 40 kph...at a point where he had already cycled more than 250 km.
And he's only 13.
