Boxer's Second
Michael writes...
Last night I did something entirely new - I was my friend Marek's corner man at the boxing. You can see me between the two fighters.
Marek (blue shirt) is a student of mine. Fík (white shirt) is the landlord of the local pub which hosted an amateur night.
The quality and intensity of the boxing was mixed. The final bout was between a couple of very large, hard, fast-moving Hell's Angels. However, the bout pictured above was slow and gentle on account of the fact that
1. They'd both only started training a few months ago
2. They're good mates and
3. Both had warmed up for the fight by drinking five beers.
My job was to get Marek gloved up, warmed up, psyched up - and refuelled between rounds.
My man lost - but only because his opponent was the landlord. We woz robbed.
However, said landlord has never yet let me pay for a single beer, so I'm not complaining!
